While organ and muscle atrophy is a natural part of getting older, research shows that there are many community-based prevention programs and other ways in which to improve overall physical health and reduce the risk of falls. In her Academy Evening talk, Dr. Jane Mahoney from the UW–Madison School of Medicine and Public Health takes a closer look at these studies and explains how fitness continues to play a major role in maintaining our physical health. This talk is part of “Age On! A Series on Growing Older, Better,” recorded in James W. Perry Hall at the University of Wisconsin–Fox Valley on October 18, 2010.
